Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel korának egyik legelismertebb, Johann Sebastian Bach által is nagyra tartott muzsikusa volt. 1727-ben komponált passiója – Jézus a jó pásztor, aki szenved és meghal az elveszett bárányokért – a műfaj egyik legnagyszabásúbb, legösszetettebb alkotása, mely közel három évszázadon át pihent előadatlanul. A zeneszerző kézírásával fennmaradt partitúrát egy berlini könyvtárban őrizték, ebből készített előadási anyagot Gyöngyösi Levente, a mű szövegét Illényi Péter és Mészáros Péter gondozta.
Stölzel így ír kompozíciója előszavában: „Az emberi nem e nagy barátja és legdrágább Megváltója tanítványai előtt szerette önmagát jó pásztorként megnevezni. Nemcsak az Újszövetség, hanem az Ószövetség könyvei is tele vannak ezzel a kedves metaforával. Sem a szándékom, sem a hely nem engedi meg, hogy itt hosszasan leírjam azt a gyengédséget, amellyel a hűséges pásztor szeretett nyája felé fordul…” A Jézus szenvedéstörténetét feldolgozó mű Vashegyi György és együttesei tolmácsolásában a koncertévad egyik legizgalmasabb előadásának ígérkezik.

Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel was one of the most renowned musicians of his time, with Johann Sebastian Bach among his admirers. Composed in 1727, his Passion is one of the grandest and most complex works of the genre, which has lain unperformed for nearly three centuries. Levente Gyöngyösi prepared the performance material from the handwritten original score by the composer, which has survived in a Berlin library. The libretto was edited by Péter Illényi and Péter Mészáros.
In the preface to his composition, Stölzel wrote: “This great friend of the human race and its dearest Redeemer loved to refer to himself before his disciples as a good shepherd. Along with the New Testament, the books of the Old Testament are also full of this lovely metaphor. Neither is it my intention nor does space allow me to describe at length here the tenderness with which the faithful shepherd turns to his beloved flock…” György Vashegyi and his ensembles’ interpretation of the work that tells the story of Jesus’ Passion promises to be one of the most exciting performances of the concert season.
